Big Lap Weekend

Get a group of mates together or treat the family to a relaxed weekend of 4WD training, incredible scenery and stories round the campfire. This two-day course is the perfect getaway – and it will set you up with the skills and confidence to take your next adventure off the beaten track. Bring your 4WD vehicle and your camping gear and spend a weekend in the Blue Mountains. Our instructors can advise you on what to take on the ideal offroad camping trip – and what you can leave behind. 

Get behind the wheel to tackle a variety of terrains and learn some new 4WD skills. In the evening enjoy a meal around the campfire, and get inspired for your next adventure.

This course incorporates a one-day Nationally accredited training course, detailed below.

Course Currency Status: Current

Accredited Training Duration: 9 hours (1 day) face to face plus 4-7 hours pre-course e-learning and online assessment

Mode of Delivery: Mixed delivery including Pre-learning (e-learning including online assessment and face to face)

8:15 am meet time for course start time 8:30 am (unless otherwise advised by Getabout Office or allocated trainer/training partner)

Unique Student Identifier (USI) required: Yes, all participants must supply a USI to enrol on the course.

Outcomes for Operate four wheel drive vehicle on unsealed roads course include:

• operating a vehicle on roads; on, or across a gradient; ascending a steep gradient; descending a steep gradient  
• pre-start checks of vehicle and equipment are carried out in accordance with manufacturer specifications and roadworthy requirements
• tyres are checked for pressure suitable for terrain and/or changed in accordance with manufacturer and workplace procedures
• vehicle fuel, water and any ancillary equipment are checked before starting vehicle journey in accordance with manufacturer and workplace procedures
• appropriate gear and/or range are selected and engine revolutions are maintained to ensure constant traction
• loads are secured in accordance with workplace and legislative requirements
• gradient conditions are constantly monitored, and appropriate operations and control techniques are used to ensure safe vehicle operation and no injury to people or damage to vehicle, tracks or loads is sustained
• vehicle is driven on-road and off-road in accordance with legislative and workplace requirements, at appropriate operating speeds for road or track conditions and hazards
• vehicle is parked and shut down in accordance with workplace and manufacturer requirements

The nationally recognised off road training component of the course also includes the comprehensive Getabout Training 4WD Guide Book, access to the Getabout E-learning platform for access to resources, pre-course work sheets and theory and practical assessments, Recovery equipment and CB radio provided for on the day training.

How it works:

When you register for the course, our office will:

• issue you with an enrolment link (each course participant needs to complete, please complete as soon as possible)
• post the 4WD Guide Book to your address
• you will receive an invitation to our e-learning platform 2 - 3 weeks out from your training day.

Getabout endeavours to allow you ample time to complete all pre-learning and online assessment in preparation before your training day.

The Getabout e-learning platform is easy to use. You will need either a smart phone, laptop or other device, and your own accessible email address.

$1120 per couple.

$885 for a single participant.

We have a maximum instructor-student ratio of 1:6, so you’ll receive personalised training to get the skills you need.
