Duration: 8 hours (1 day) face to face plus 4-7 hours pre-course e-learning and online assessment

Mode of Delivery: Mixed delivery including pre-learning (e-learning including online assessment and face to face training and assessment).

Course Times: 8:15 am meet time for 8:30am course start time (unless otherwise advised by Getabout Office or allocated trainer/training partner)

Participant to bring own 4WD with low range gearing capabilities to the training day

During your face-to-face training day your instructor will support you to develop the fundamental 4WD skills you need to drive off-road with confidence. Outcomes for FWPCOT3325 Operate four wheel drive vehicle on unsealed roads includes:

- Performing Pre-operational vehicle checks

- Applying safe vehicle loading practise

- Changing a wheel on a 4WD vehicle sited on uneven ground

- Stall/key start recovery downhill forward and reverse

- Implementing minimal environmental impact practices

- Operating a 4WD vehicle competently in off-highway conditions, including:

- Up and down steep inclines

- Correct range, gears and techniques

- Through muddy terrain and ditches

- Across side slope involving irregular terrain

- Irregular sandy terrain

- Through water and along dry and wet dirt roads.

- Using a single snatch strap to recover a vehicle

- Operating a 4WD vehicle giving due regard to Workplace Health and Safety issues

- Knowledge and skills required to use a 4WD vehicle with due regard to environmental issues

What to expect:

When you register for the course, our office will:

  • issue you with an enrolment link (each course participant needs to complete, please complete as soon as possible)
  • post the 4WD Guide Book to your address
  • you will receive an invitation to our e-learning platform 3- 4 weeks out from your training day.

Getabout endeavours to allow you ample time to complete all pre-learning and online assessment in preparation before your training day.

The Getabout e-learning platform is easy to use with a comprehensive dashboard to navigate your way through the course requirements. You will need either a smart phone, laptop or other device, and your own accessible email address.

Before your training day

  • explore the course resources
  • have at least one attempt at the theory assessment
  • complete the vehicle check worksheet
  • low risk module (only if listed in your dashboard)

On the scheduled day of your training (face-to-face training day) 

  • bring your 4WD vehicle (capable of low range)
  • you instructor will be on hand to review your pre-learning tasks and answers and discuss any questions – then it’s time to get behind the wheel.
  • your instructor will support you to develop your skill set and complete with you your practical assessment.
  • You may be required to access your e-learning on the day.

After your training day and once you have received satisfactory for course elements completion of your cover sheet will consolidate your overall course outcome.
